Nearly there, I hope!

Hey … I’m not really good at this but am giving it a go but am stuck.

I’m trying to the “Expand the package archive and launch the “MobileCoin TestNet” client…” bit and can’t figure out how to install the client. This is what my screen looks like:

[email protected]:~$ sudo tar xvzf mobilecoin-testnet-linux.tar.gz

mobilecoin-testnet-linux/

mobilecoin-testnet-linux/bin/

mobilecoin-testnet-linux/bin/mc-testnet-client

mobilecoin-testnet-linux/bin/mobilecoind

mobilecoin-testnet-linux/mobilecoin-testnet.sh

[email protected]:~$ cd mobilecoin-testnet-linux

[email protected]:~/mobilecoin-testnet-linux$ ls

bin mobilecoin-testnet.sh

[email protected]:~/mobilecoin-testnet-linux$

Fingers crossed I’m nearly there :stuck_out_tongue:

From where you are you should just be able to type
./mobilecoin-testnet.sh

Thanks !! That worked … kind of

Got this error:

Daemon is starting up
Unable to connect to mobilecoind on 127.0.0.1:4444.
Are you sure it is running and accepting connections?

The error was: RpcFailure: 14-UNAVAILABLE failed to connect to all addresses
Terminated

Hmm, weird, the network seems to be up.

I’m about to go to sleep, but if you can post the results of:
cat /tmp/mobilecoind.log

I can look in the morning.

Thank you and have a good night !!

Not sure if it makes any difference but I’m using WSL on Windows to run this

I use both ubuntu20.04 and wsl, no problem.

That’s a new one for us! I don’t think we’ve had anyone try on WSL, we’re hoping we’ll be able to add native Windows support in the future.

Looks like trans got it up and running. So, I’m confused … if he did it, I should be able to :man_shrugging: I did spin up an instance on a VPS but got stuck trying to download (or unpack/install?) the package from GitHub … actually, think it was the SSH from GitHub that got me  … all coming back to me now :joy:

This is all new to me but thought it’d be easier to install it via a GUI for WSL … but couldn’t get that going, either. Thought I’d give it one more crack and try via CLI on WSL and here we are. Got this far on WSL … perhaps I’ll spin up a VPS instance and give it another go…

Thanks for your help !!

Getting the same error when running through Ubuntu 20.04 on a VPS

[email protected]:~/mobilecoin-testnet-linux# ./mobilecoin-testnet.sh

Maybe create a firewall and open up port 4444?

WSL on Win10
I usually got the same error. I just run the script repeatedly till the client connect to the server.

keep connecting

yes. for now there is no .exe client. but we can run the linux client via wsl --Windows Subsystem for Linux

Mashing feels right, being this early :joy: And thanks, much better running it on WSL … don’t need this up and running 24/7

For what it’s worth, we only guarantee servers will be up from 10am to 7pm PST. Anything outside those hours is best-effort.

Cheers,
Joshua
